Doodle: “Stan”

One thing I enjoyed doing on my original site was the section I labeled “Doodles”, the fiction or poetry that would (likely) never evolve into anything long-form or publishable, but was still worthy of sharing. Today, I bring back this tradition, with a Doodle written on the train over my ride back from San Francisco.

It may not eventually turn into anything longer – though it might, haven’t decided whether to try or not – but I thought it was decent enough that you might enjoy it. So here it is, a brief read I’ve titled “Stan”.

Enjoy!

Better Than Favoritism

If you’re a gamer, whether a professional in the field or a casual player, you’ve likely experienced one question above all others from any other gamer in the vicinity:

“What’s your favorite console/game?”

Those two are interchangeable within the question, so I’ve included both up there. And it comes up in so many conversations when meeting a new gamer for the first time, even more prevalent than, say, the more interesting and direct question of what you’re playing currently. And I know I’ve given a hundred different answers over the years for both platforms and games, including the NES, Game Boy, Neo Geo Pocket Color, Super Mario Brothers 3, Tetris, The World Ends With You, and others.

But recently I was rooting through my storage and rediscovered my DS Lite (which has been one of the answers before) and rooted through my DS/3DS protector’s pocket of loose carts, and it’s brought me back to a troublesome time in my life, which not only is the reason I have this blog right now, but acted as a saving grace that, quite possibly, saved both my pride and my life during a rough patch. Two consoles, and two games that kept me going. And I’d like to tell you about them.

February Recap

Man… I’ve been meaning to write more, but between games I have to play for review and the articles themselves, just been distracted while still getting some content out into to the world. I’ll be around more this month, you have my word. I was only able to get through about a hundred pages of what I’m re-reading right now (1984 by Orwell), so I haven’t had time to read read – let alone review – another book with the workload I have currently.

Speaking of books, MY novel is still being worked on in second-draft form. It’s slow-going (also from the reviews and previews distracting me from it), but it is still coming along. I’ll include the prologue chapter of the second draft at the end of this post for anyone interested in a short teaser. It’s brief, but hopefully it well represents the tone I’m hoping for in the finished story. I hope you like it!
